The average American eats out twice a week. You could lose weight simply by switching to kid's meals. I will give you an example to show you how.
Sally normally eats at McDonald's twice a week. When she goes she orders the 10 piece nugget meal with a coke (meal size small). All other days, she eats around maintenance calories (equal to the amount she burns). She is 25 years old, weighs 200 pounds, and is 5 feet 5 inches tall.
Right now, she is gaining one pound every five weeks from her eating habits.
Here is the math: For 5 days a week she eats 1,986 calories (her maintenance). On two days out of the week, she replaces a meal with the 10 piece nugget meal. On those two days, she consumes a total of 2,336 calories.
What would happen if all she did was switch to a kid's meal with a water instead? She won't be exercising. All she will be doing is switching from a 10 piece meal with a coke to a 4 piece kid's meal with a water.
She would go from gaining one pound every five weeks to losing one pound every 21 weeks. She switches from gaining weight to losing weight. Of course, the weight loss is very slow, but at least she is losing something and she barely had to change anything in her life.
Weight loss does not have to be difficult. I am not supporting the idea of eating McDonald's. I just wanted to illustrate how simple it can be to change one thing and change your whole life.
Now imagine what would happen if she switches to only drinking water instead of drinking cokes all week. Sally drinks a coke with every meal. She eats maintenance every day. She breaks her calories into four meals per day. In each meal, she consumes 496 calories. Out of that, 346 calories are actually food and the other 150 is from a coke per meal.
If she only changes to water with every meal and does not change anything else, what will happen?
She will begin to lose 1.2 pounds a week. That is almost 5 lbs per month that she will lose from one simple change. I hope this article encourages anyone out there who isn't sure about how to lose weight or where to start. It is the little things that you do each day that add up.
A healthy weight loss is two to eight pounds per month. That is what you should be striving for. In order to get there, all you have to do is make little tweaks in your life. You may choose to take a walk each evening. You may switch to only drinking water. You may decide to cut out all condiments from your meals. These little things will make a big difference.
